On Not Wanting to Be a Missionary

Why am I going to Africa for nine months to be a missionary? It all started a few years ago when I said "I don’t want to be a missionary, I will never be a missionary." I was going to have a normal life, with a mission trip here or there. But my life was not going to be as a missionary.

Last Day to Apply for the World Race!

The last two months have truly been the exploration of making missions a lifestyle for our two World Race squads currently out in the field. The September 2007 squad has been in Central America in locations from Panama to Costa Rica and through Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala.
The January 2008 squad has been all over southern Africa working with orphans, showing the Jesus Film to crowds of people and watching many get saved and even healed.
July 1 is the deadline to apply for the last World Race squad of 2008.

You could spend two months in Swaziland this fall, serving God through caring for the poorest of the poor and helping build a new orphan village.
Swaziland is an African country that has been devastated by the AIDS virus and desperately needs people who will go and be the hands and feet of Jesus, bringing a message of love, hope, and salvation.

Saying Goodbye To Swaziland

Coming here has been an adventure full of challenges, triumphs, and my growth as a man of God. I have been lead in ways I wouldn't have dreamed. It started out as quiet fieldwork in the garden, but seeds have been planted on this farm that heaven will soon be rejoicing over as they break the soil. The excitement and mysteriousness of the future is mixing with the joy and fruit that make me want to stay here forever.

This week, the desperation and tragedy of this place started to hit me.
Realizing that some of my first graders are HIV positive.
Meeting gogos in the hospital that have out-lived 6 of their 9 children.
Holding the tiniest baby boy and knowing his mother is dying and each breath is painful for him.
