Real-World Ministry
The main difference between the First Year Missionary program
and every other discipleship program is its real-world ministry.
God’s call on our lives isn’t just to learn about His
heart for the hurting and lost. It’s not even to learn how
to reach out to these. It’s to go. Students apply the things
they’re learning by following Him out into the cities, villages,
schools, hospitals… all sorts of places where people are needy
for relationship, for healing, for hope, for abundance, for God.
FYMs take faith steps, they love and they serve, they experience
God’s power, and they’re encouraged to step again. In
it, they grow.

Group
Ministry
FYM Fams go out often to minister to those in their neighborhood.
In Philadelphia, students are known by the down-and-out for their
Saturday street cookouts. In Mexico, they adopt a block and spend
a time there praying for, visiting with, and helping out its residents.
Group ministry will look different depending on your location and
on what God’s asked you to do that day, but in each case you’ll
contribute to and support your friends in the effort of the whole.
You can be sure you’ll have some experiences to remember.
Internship
Each FYM will commit to an existing ministry outside AIM to serve
with several hours of their time each week. You’ll come alongside
a church body, missionary, or parachurch group and apply what you’ve
learned to the ‘real world’ of missions. You’ll
take ownership of one or several aspects of that ministry –
maybe even create your own within it – and become a partner
with them in achieving your common vision. This will be the most
consistent area of your service. Check out the
FYM testimonies
for examples, as well as previous student evaluations
on internships.
Individual
Ministry
If you want even more, you can make some opportunities of your own.
You might choose to lead worship in a local church, do sports outreach
in your neighborhood, or invest some real love in the life of a child.

by navigating through the Locations.
